DescriptionOne of the Siem Reap- Phnom Penh intercity express buses runs past.jpg
English: One of the Siem Reap- Phnom Penh intercity express buses runs past us on the road to Kompong Phluk. I am in a tuk tuk in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on my way to see the Kompong Phluk floating village on the mighty Tonle Sap lake. While most travelers go to Cambodia, notably Siem Reap the check out the Angkor Wat and other Angkor era temples in it's vicinity (see separate albums about the Angkor temples), no visit to Siem Reap is complete unless one visits the mighty Tonle Sap lake and the floating villages. We will talk about the floating villages when we get there, so see subsequent pictures in this album. There is a floating village in Siem Reap itself, the Chong Khneas, but my hotel and most internet websites and blogs advise against visiting it as it is an out and out tourist trap with pushy sales folk trying to sell you overpriced souvenirs or pushing you to buy an overpriced $ 40 bag of rice for the kids, which probably never reaches the kids anyway, as it's a big scam. Back to this picture, I could not make out the brand of this rather luxurious intercity express bus, but it is in all probability of Chinese origin, from the looks of it. With no railways between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, in fact over all of Cambodia, thanks to the demented and brain dead Khmer Rouge lunatics who destroyed every inch of train track in the country deeming them as unnecessary, the intercity express bus is the only way to travel within Cambodia.
